President's message
The Montreal Centre of Excellence in Brownfields Rehabilitation (MCEBR) is a non-profit organization devoted to the environment, the community and its sustainable development.
Our goal is to spearhead the efforts and initiatives of all those who wish to advance the body of knowledge and the ways of doing things in the soil and groundwater sector. But our interests go further beyond the R&D field as our activities also include: showing the achievements of our companies to the world; increasing public awareness and listening to the public; and initiating new ideas.
I hope you enjoy visiting our Internet site. Please contact us should you wish to develop a research project, deal with areas of concern or simply visit our exhibit alongside the Lachine Canal.

Mission
The Centre's mission is to stimulate and support technology innovation in the decontamination and remediation field and to help industry develop expertise in these areas.
MCEBR has positioned itself to provide interface services for major landowners grappling with particularly complex contamination problems, their consultants, technology developers and research centres that offer pertinent and innovative solutions.
Brief history
MCEBR is a non-profit corporation founded in 1997 by the three levels of government (municipal, provincial and federal). The name underscores the search for excellence and the initiative of the City of Montreal and its partners in the promotion of brownfields rehabilitation.
MCEBR's head office was built in 2002, in the heart of the most contaminated zone of the island of Montréal, that is to say the Canal de Lachine. The site, an old marshalling yard, has been capped by a 20 cm thick layer of clean soil. The contamination, voluntarily left in place following a risk assessment analysis, is intended to serve as a test yard for some remediation technologies to be studied. Hence, a phytoremediation project has been developped since.
Its unique activities and quality national and international strategic partnerships, give the Centre a solid reputation across Canada and Europe in addition in contributing significantly to the development of both canadian and international markets.
